We learned about the history of the Great Wall of China and then worked together to build our very own Great Wall.
We met with our 3F buddies today and shared some of our favorite non-fiction books. Both classes are learning about non-fiction features and structure right now. Next week, we plan to go on a non-fiction feature hunt!
1-D is working hard on creating our own forbidden cities after learning about the original Forbidden City in Beijing, China today!
We have been learning about China. Together, the first graders in 1-D made an amazing "jumbo" 3D map of China. We used candy, yarn, pompoms and paint to represent mountains, rivers, the Great Wall, cities, deserts, and oceans. Then, we figured out where all the labels went using mapping clues.
We read Martin’s Big Words in honor of MLK Day on Monday. We thought about what his powerful words mean to us and collaged his words as a group.
We are learning about past Caldecott winners from Mrs. Ewenstein! We can’t wait to find out this year’s winners in a couple weeks!
We are starting an opinion writing unit! First graders have collections of objects, state their opinions, and give lots of reasons.
1-D’s Flat Stanleys traveled all over the world. From Argentina to Dubai and many places in between, we loved hearing about all the different cities, states, and countries! Way to go, 1-D!
1D had a fabulous time celebrating meeting our goal of 30 compliments with a pajama party! Way to go, first graders!
