We started a new math unit on fractions today by sorting symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes! We decided which shapes could be split into EQUAL parts - and which cannot. We then read Give Me Half by Stuart Murphy, which talked all about fair ways to divide a pizza. 1-D did a wonderful job with this introduction to fractions! ...
We had so much fun celebrating 100th Day of School by imagining what we would look like when we’re 100 -years-old. We also guessed what we might be doing!
We practiced a new accuracy strategy in reading workshop today. Sometimes when you come across a word you don’t know, it can be helpful to skip the word, then come back. Other words and pictures on the page can clue us into the word.
We had so much fun learning about kite flying today! We even got to watch a kite flying competition and create our own dragon kites! We learned that people believe kites chase away bad luck!

What an exciting day in first grade! It’s our annual Caldecott celebration at Baker School. We loved hearing this years winners and honor books. Some of our favorite Baker School staff members read three books aloud. Thanks Ms. Smith, Dr. Brown, and Ms. Davenport!
